I am reading a book called "Groundswell" where they suggest any author should post some content (their new book) on a blog or web site to allow potential consumers to view before they purchase.

First, I posed the question to my Linked-in group and they were in favor of it. Now I wanted to ask this community the same question. Your thoughts?

I think so. I think it is a great way to generate interest and even get early feedback, suggestions and comments.

Of course you should! Everyone likes a teaser before they buy. Some large online bookstores offer the first chapter for free. Amazon does a great job with this. Their search functionality returns hits on actual body of content from within the book itself . So its more than just searching for an author or title.

Posting limited amounts makes sense. Naturally you don't want to give it all away though! You might also look at including with your snippets a link to a signup page on your site for people to register for email notifications for when the book is for sale. You might also want to award them for signing up by emailing them an additional sample from the book. I hope that helps. Good luck! :)

Luckiest -- not the first, but maybe the first that someone other than business students and MBA candidates will read. Release date is September 16 (I'll post an announcement).

Thank you all for your constructive feedback - your collective insight was very valuable indeed!

This is actually my Second Book - the first was titled "The Brand Advocate: A Strategy-Driven Workbook"

This second book will be released around August timeframe and is centered on Brand Strategy. Today I'm meeting with both a SEO company and web design firm that will be building a blog which features a down-loadable section of the book as you guys recommeded.

I'll keep the Small Business Community updated as time draws near...

Thanks again

Yes, yes you should.

Actually you should do it in several different ways. Instead of just letting them download the sample chapters you should have them opt-in to a mailing list when they download it so that you can then follow up with them automaticly using an autresponder and boost your conversion rates. Not only will this sell more books, it will allow for you to test different sales material to determine which works best in a scientific fashion.
