Great idea HandyMan,

I'll post my profile there and encourage my clients to post their company's info there too.

Take care,

Hi,

Here is my constructive review. First and foremost, you must realize there are hundreds of websites with this same functionality. In fact, the online community has even brought this sort of a service to targeted industries (see designfirms.org for a great example). Now, this is NOT to deter you, but to motivate you in differentiating your business.

Initially, I really like your ease of usability and simplicity. This is what made Google so popular back in the day. I really see a craigslist meets yellowpages flow with your site, build on that and I think you'll be very successful. My number 1 complaint though would be search engine optimization. In simplest terms, a standard spider will go to every page that links off the homepage. As far as I can see, none of the business listings have any way of being reached by the search engine. I'm listing my site to reach more customers, one of the main ways I want to do that with a site like yours is to improve the amount of other websites linking to my own. It's great on my profile that it links to my website, but if the search engine can't find my profile in the first place, we loose that functionability.

Your site is new, so I understand you're looking to improve very much. I'd really focus on the design, give it more of a refined look and keep the simplicity, the site overall seems like it could be cleaned up very much. I like the "get directions" feature, however I didn't even realize it was giving me driving directions until I scrolled down (you should be able to see key content without scrolling). Perhaps have left aligned directions with a right aligned map, rather then a huge map and huge directions. Also, the background repicates incorrectly http://www.handyherman.com/getDirections.

Signing up worked well, however as a graphic designer, I have to complain about the image manipulation. It appears you have code that recreates the image to your settings -- a big problem with this is that its not rendering my images correctly. There is obvious interpolation as I uploaded a GIF and your code transformed my image into a low res jpg. Not good, as now the logo to my company looks very unprofessional. Also, when uploading the image, it'd be great to see what size I should format my logo to. ~Alright I gotta get back to work, hope all this helps and good luck!
