Ok I've done a lot of web searching in my off hours for the proper "Sales Tax Exemption Certificate" request form or forms I need to file with the state of New Mexico.
I've tried the web hard but still only get the facts of what the certificate is, and I know there has to be a goverment web site that I can obtain it with out paying someone to get it for me?

Anyone familar with New Mexico resale tax law or anyone have the place i can get the darn form/s?

I am opening a $1.00 retail store and will be purchasing merchandise from several different states. All inventory will be bought for resale only, and tax charged too my customers for each purchase.

Also I know in the state of Florida the tax laws on resale of Food items, American Flags, and Bibles are tax exempt at retail level. Does anyone one know if this holds true as well in the State of New Mexico?

Any help or advice, I thank you!

This may be why your searches aren't turning up anything: New Mexico doesn't have a Sales Tax -- well, they do, but they call it a "Gross Receipts Tax." Their Use Tax is called a "Compensating Tax." (It had me baffled the first time I booked programs there!)

Anyway, visit the State Taxation and Revenue website and see if you can find the forms and instructions you need.

Hope that helps. Let me know.

Glad I could help. As I said, that threw me for a loop the first time, too.

You need a "Non-Taxable Transaction Certificate." This form is availavble from the NM Taxation and Revenue Department office nearest your location. There are several applications of the from and you have to obtain the correct form for your business. (Their website and interactive forms leave a lot to be desirerd.

Sante Fe_CPA thanx for the input, and boy did I find that out already! But Lighthouse at least got pointed in the right direction for what I was looking for. I least now know which forms I need, and an ounce of education is worth a pound in being prepared!

Thanx again for the input!

I work for a small county government here in New Mexico.

I was given the task to purchase items over the internet. We are not suppose to be taxed. I thought this to be a simple task.

The company, "Staples", wants me to fax them a no tax
certificate. So, I tell the administration people. They tell me that Staples has to register or something with the state. I call Staples back and try to explain to them something that I barely understand myself. Staples does not understand what I am talking about. I don't understand what I am talking about.

A few years ago I was able to purchase items with no sales tax. All I did was fax them a nontaxable transaction certificate.

I'm confused.

I googled and this thread came up.
