I am not trying to be funny, but I was curious about state tax. As to why some states have it and other states don't? In Illinois, we do have state tax and so with my Web site business I must charge my clients that also live in Illinois our state tax. I'm only the middle-man and collect it for the state when another fellow-state client buys. But, if a client in Georgia buys my product, then I don't have to charge them state tax. If I did business in Nevada or I also think Florida...then I would not have to charge any clients at all any state tax. Why is this? For the states that don't charge state tax...where do they get money from to pay for schools, highways, programs, etc. things of that nature.

They get you one way or another!!

Sales tax is a concept of CONSUMERISM - "use".... the more you consume the more you pay.

Some states are taxing based on PROPERTY TAX , income tax, and less on SALES. Either way the states have budgets to keep so they get you one way or another!
