Carson, you indicated that it is difficult in this community to find genuine principals who are ready for investors. Likewise, it is difficult for the principals of a small business who are ready for outside funding to find genuine investors here.

In my experience, the process never begins with sending a detailed business plan to a gmail address. (Genuine business owners might assume that rather than being a qualified investor, you are merely collecting business plans to adapt to non-US markets for resale or implementation. I'm not saying that's the case with you -- only suggesting that many business owners would see your request as jumping directly to a "third date" level of intimacy without having had the first two yet.)

The first thing a genuine investor normally wants is evidence of "traction" -- something that shows the business is poised to take off. Unfortunately, business owners who hit this site are not very good at that. They make posts asking for money, but fail to provide a potential investor or lender with any reason whatsoever to give it to them. That's "their bad."

The second thing a genuine investor wants is to really get to know the principal -- to determine if this person has the competence and commitment to grow the company. And the principal wants to get to know the investors -- to determine if they are really qualified to fund the deal and if everyone can work together.

Provided the first two "dates" work out, then things get serious (detailed business plans, due diligence, term sheets, etc.).

My suggestion to business owners seeking investors here would be to include profile information and post your "elevator pitch" so you can provide some traction. My suggestion to investors like yourself would be to provide profile information and respond to good posts by offering information about your own background and qualifications, and requesting the same from the business owner so you can get acquainted and "size each other up." If you decide to move forward from there, then you can get into the business details.

A final suggestion for legitimate lenders and investors: When someone posts, "I have no assets, bad credit, I'm $15K in debt, was just released from prison and can't find a job -- so I need $300,000 to start my own business . . ." ignore it. Anyone who posts a response that says something like, "Contact me, I can help you get the funding you need" is not going to be seen by the genuine business owners on this site as a legitimate lender or investor.

I hope this info helps legitimate investors and serious business owners connect -- because, as you noted, it isn't always easy. Best wishes.

Have you visited http://www.prosper.com/ ? Several members of this community have reported positive experiences there on both sides of the deal. That might be one place to look.

carson

this is dmae15 and i have to admire you putting your request up like that! simply because there's so much out there in the world, country, state, city for you to invest in and make sure you take care of home first. see, i say that because i kind of started out the same way you are, wanting to invest into a business but got caught with minimal funds to continue. i was working a full time job, part time job, going to school full time, still maintaining going to church and my other five groups i'm affiliated with. i'm not saying all that to sound very big or anything like that, however, my heart is genuine and you know there are truly a few honest people out there. the one business i least expected to get into comes from my full time job and that's only because I care about people and elderly or sick people at that!! have you ever considered like someone posted to you earlier of being an independant bookkeeper/accountant and if you want to add to your list medical billing, that's the other part of my business i'm getting into. i get to still help my patients/doctors/nursing homes/retirement-anyone over 55 apartment homes residents/patients. these are just a few of the clients you would encounter. email me so i can tell you about what "I" think you should get into. not only will it be a good investment for the community, I think you would benefit greatly!!!

sincerely & respectfully

Lighthouse: Awsome response to persons looking for and wanting to invest into some type of business. I have started, bought and sold businesses. Yes, I did borrow money and am working on a project with my business partner of 5 years that could be awsome. The business has the potential to do what Nike has done. Phil Knight took different variables available to everyone, put them into a formula and created something that was not in the market before. I am not looking for money, but just wanted to reply to your asture knolwedge and your very nicley placed words for idiots looking for money and those that pretend to look for money which are probably scam artests! Thanks again.

carson,
I might have the business invetment you are looking for. That will depend upon what type of business your looking to invest in as well?

I can provide you with a Business & Marketing plan that will show everything about my retail stradetgy if you like?
What I am, and what I own is a $1.00 retail store with plans to open other stores in the future. I can not wait till Dollar Tree store's (my competitor) lawyers knock on my door wanting to buy me out, so I can send them back to their corporate office with a note from me asking how much will it take for me to buy them out!

Look for EL Dollar Shops in your area soon, we have plans to provide what the average consumer needs in every part of the United States!
Consumers are more value conscious than they've been in the past. Their shopping habits have shifted from department stores to discounters and mass merchandisers. Many consumers can find the same items at a mass merchandiser that they can find at a department store at a substantially lower price.*

Intrested? Want to know more about me and my corporation?

I have an investment opportunity that is very unique due to circumstances in the Gulf Coast Regions. These deals are short term, secured investments. Investors need at least $100k to invest and up to $1 million. I can guarantee a 15% return on each investment while securing your investment and profits BEFORE you commit your finances, and we only require whatever amount is NEEDED for that particular deal. If you are interested in this unique program, please contact me at the site below and leave a message or call the number at the bottom of the page.

Carson, I have been working with a marketing company for the past year and I have been selling advertising for High School and College Sports Posters. It is a very lucrative business. Lot's of hard work, no pie in the sky here, but I want to open 2 offices and I have the backing of a 26 year corporation who has 600 schools nationwide as clients, and thousands of repeat advertisers. This is telemarketing only. For more information please e mail me at info@on-target-marketing.com or visit our web site at www.on-target-marketing.com. I am located in Kingman Arizona and want an office in Fresno , California. Everything is in place but the seed capital and start up money. Not a large investment for a very large ROI and big percentage of ownership in the business.
You can also call me at 1-800-883-8358
