I HAVE DONE MY OWN TAXES FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD TO USE A EIN BEFORE. I AM GOING TO GET AN ACCOUNTANT TO LOOK OVER MY TAX RETURN THIS YEAR BUT I HAVE RUN OUT OF TIME, SO I WAS GOING TO FILE AN EXTENSION JUST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS CORRECT. THANKS FOR THE HELP.

Assuming your business is being reported on Schedule C of your personal return, use your Social Security Number on Form 4868 to file for an extension on your personal return. Good luck!

Lighthouse is correct on the extension. Use your social security number when reporting on your 1040.

When you are conducting business however, use you EIN number. This helps protect you identity and social security number from misuse by the general public.

If you look at the schedule C, it has a place to enter your EIN. That is one of the ways the IRS links your social security and your EIN together.

Stay out of trouble and much luck.
