Business Opportunities

I have a business colleague in New York who recently quit his corporate job and is looking to by an existing non-franchised business. Any ideas where one could go to get a listing of "real" business opportunities or those looking to sell a business or looking for investors who could become partners?

Hi, Luckiest -
There are numerous good business brokers in the country. I'd find a reputable one and let them do the legwork and due diligence for you up front. (Absolutely do your own due diligence once you've located a business that is of interest to you.) You'll have to pay a commission, but it's WELL worth it..

I like perusing http://www.bizbuysell.com/. I have no plans to purchase a business at this time, but I on occasion view to see what is going on in my industry.

Some of the most common ways to find an existing business to buy are checking out the classified ads under Businesses for sale, contacting a business broker in the area you are considering, and by word of mouth. Just let people know that you are keeping an eye out for a certain kind of business.
