Hi! I don't know if this is the right place to post? I don't know what to consider a real business. I am an art major and have enjoyed creative writing so I started to publish on Lulu.com if anyone is aware of their services. Is it still a business to have your works published and sold through lulu even though the creative work is all your own? Finally I would like to grab the attention business professionals who might find need to publish to read my poems and see my drawings. Right now, I have my first published material it set up for sale and would like others to review it. Yes, you will have to buy a copy of it although, the read is well worth it, I believe. I would like to spread the word to any, because I am hoping to get a reader's following for my works. Here is the site:

Welcome to this web site.
YES it becomes a business once you make a sale and start bringing in income.
A business needs a Business Name and a Federal I D Number.
Do you know about SCORE. SCORE helps people in business FREE.
I would be interested in following your works and will visit your site.
Another suggestion: Contact Amy at Nickels and Dimes.
Good luck, LUCKIEST

You are not an employee of Lulu's, so if you produced the book with the expectation of making a profit (which seems to be the case, since you're promoting it here) -- as opposed to having done it as a hobby (for fun, your own satisfaction, or to share with friends/family) -- then yes, you are engaged in a business (self-publishing). Good luck with your book!

Yes, thanks Luckiest. I just asked to get into contact with a mentor on SCORE. I will post how the experience goes. Now I understand a little more the importance of a transaction. I guess when something is done for income or funds, then it is a business. Now, My truest intention is also to let family and friends know. I should give that the most attention, I realize, Lighthouse. Are there anyone you know who have published on Lulu? I am thinking of producing more work within the next year so that my storefront wouldn't be so empty. I would like to ask everyone what they would like to have seen published, or what genre they enjoy reading the most. I guess I could consider fishing for publication ideas would be for business also, since a sale would be made.

Yes thanks for your reply Lighthouse. Self Publishing is seeming to be quite the ordeal, for me its to make a profit, yet I would like to emphasize that I started the project for archiving purposes, so I would not lose my work. I did it to earn income as well as a hobby, I suppose. Are things generally possible to do for hobby and profit alltogether and still be considered a hobby?

I recall at least two (maybe more) posts in this community from members who published through Lulu (I just remember who). You might put some words like "publishing," "writing," or "book" in the Search this site box and see what comes up.

Left out the word "can't" -- I just can't remember who . . .
