Hello, I am new and I didn't see this posted here. I have a new business that I am starting up and I need a good logo designer that can work with on a logo. Has anyone out there run across some talented designers that give good value (since I am not made of money)? Notice that I didn't say the cheapest because that is not what I am after. I need someone to bounce ideas off of and to come up with some of their own. I would be interested in people's experiences.

The first thing a qualified logo designer must have is a portfolio, and a website to display there portfolio. Only the best get to the point where they can do as such.

I design websites, and being new in this phase of my business, it has been difficult to generate clients without a portfolio.

Hence I am offering my Web Design Services Pro-bono for a limited time. Customer pays for cost of template, I customize to there liking.

I also work with logo design, but do not have a portfolio. I would be willing to work with you on the design of your logo, just to build my portfolio as well.

The logo design would be completely free, as opposed to web design services that you have to pay for cost of template.

Really you would have nothing to lose, and can always reject my offering.

Cyan-MYK ~ I am interested in viewing your work, only as a reference point.

Do you have a website?

Thank you Cyan.

As you can see posting your question has generated several avenues of possibility and I suspect more will come. Just before to follow up with anyone who presents themselves professionally and in a manner you identify with. Also do let everyone know on the forum when your need has been met so no one else tries to come out of the blue if you will and keep us posted on your experiences in this process as it could be a highly valuable resource for someone else in the future who is in the same position you are in now.

Best wishes and good luck!

Pistolepete, as a business owner, I have gotten the best results when I (a) gave the designer a rudimentary sketch or marked-up piece of clip art that communicated my basic visual concept, and then let him/her go from there, or (b) described the main visual message I wanted to communicate and the reaction/response I wanted to elicit, and then let the designer prepare four or five different alternatives so we could both get a feel for worked and what didn't.

Two things to keep in mind in either case: (1) Explain how you intend to use the logo -- a design may look wonderful on a website or video, but lousy in a two color medium like newspaper ads or product imprints (and vice versa). (2) Get the input of other people before making a decision on the final design -- what appeals to you most may not be the most effective for your target, plus others may catch a potential problem that you and your designer didn't.

Every artist has a "style," and a portfolio is a way to quickly determine if someone might be able to come up with something you like. I don't care if the projects in the portfolio are "real" commercial designs or not -- I just want to save us both the time and frustration of me being an impossible customer for that particular artist to please. I'm always willing to work with a qualified artist who is just starting out -- provided he/she understands the "work-for-hire" arrangement, and shows the same professionalism and sense of urgency about his/her work as I do mine.

Good luck in your quest for a logo!

Pistolpete,

We use www.99designs.com

It's simple - submit your request with your requirements, including the amount you want to pay. Designers will compete and will create logos for you. If you like any, then you pay the amount to the winning designer.

You get the creativity of 25+ designers working for you as opposed to just one designer. Of course the more you agree to pay the more attractive your request is (causing more designers to compete) and the greater likelihood that you'll find one you like.
