Hi my name is Amy Wesley, owner and CEO of Nickels and Dimes Advertising. I am a published author myself and a working on my next project.
Mirror, Mirror my first book was published verbatim, without editorial input without the help of an agent and without connections to anyone in the industry. I submitted it to PublishAmerica, a small publishing company in Baltimore, Maryland and they have been just great throughout the whole process. This is a traditional publishing company, meaning they pay royalties. When my book sells I get money.

Amy, just curious . . . Is the royalty you're being paid 8 percent of the wholesale price or 8 percent of the net margin? (The PA website wasn't clear on that.) Thanks!

I get paid climbing royalties starting at 8% of the books current price, $19.95. So to futher explain when one book is sold, I get 8% of 19.95. After 2,000 books have been sold I get 10% and for 10,000 books and beyond I get 12.5%. I say it like this because I don't have a sales sheet so I don't yet know how many copies have been sold as of this date,

Thanks, Amy. (Sales volume is your business -- I wasn't asking about that). 8 percent of cover price answers my question. Thanks again.

Yes (management textbooks), and one firm in which I have ownership interest is a publisher of training materials. We do a fair amount of seminar-based training and public speaking, which is not really all that profitable -- but the "back of the room" sales of related books and materials can be. We generally self-publish those, but explore other options when we think we have something could have a life of its own (sales outside our direct marketing efforts). So I still like to keep up with the kinds of deals that authors are getting from some of the short run and POD firms like PA and LuLu. I appreciate the info.
