Good idea sort of like LinkedIn. However tell your database guys to look at your systems. I did a search for businesses within 50 miles of my area (Columbia, South Carolina) and it gave me listing for Colorado.

Very nice input.

Do you offer individual Search Engine Optimization techniques for each company? Can you guarantee Search Engine Placement & Results for each placement?

I do like the idea, and will sign up shortly.

If you would like assistance in building quality traffic to your site, with use of specialized search engine optimization techniques directly related to your service or product, please let me know, I can help.

Ed,
You are on the right track that it is like LinkedIn but the difference is that the profile is for actual businesses, not people in a business. When a customer searches our website they would use it like the yellowpages in the sense that they could search for a business (i.e. landscaping) and our website will bring up landscaping businesses in thier area. Our webpage will provide the business' contact information, a short description, pictures and a rating to better assist a customer in searching for business that best suites thier needs. Thanks, Ed.

We are working on having Google index our website. We hope that a customer that searches google for a certain business or business category will find applicable business profiles on Handyherman.com. Thank you for your inquiry and we will take a look at intechspecial.com.

Our LLC's history that I hope will inspire some of you:

The idea arose when I couldn' t figure out why there isn't a company that contracts out talented labor other than for building houses. For example, if a couple wants to fix up their house by paving their driveway, shingling their roof and powerwashing their back deck. Do they have to cold call small businesses out of the phone book and organize all of this work themselves? The answer is "yes". So why isn 't their a company that contracts this out?

After about a year of being frustrated with this reality, I sent this email to my two good friends from college that were excelling in computer programming with large companies in Northern Virginia:

"Fellas,

I have an idea. I truly believe that if we quit our jobs and worked our tails off on this for 6 months we would make money. Maybe not millions, but the sky is the limit with the internet. I don't think it's realistic to quit our jobs but if you think its good it will never happen unless we quit everything else for a year. Basically, here's the deal:

I want someone to power wash (i.e) my deck. How can I find the best deal with the best guy? The answer is that: I can't. I will ask around, look at their review on their website and hope the guy will actually show up to work. Why isn't there a My Space for small businesses? Easy to start for the company and they can slowly build their knowledge until they have an actual web site, with reviews (such as eBay review that ebayers take very serious), a ranking according to their reviews, an address and directions. If they have a website there'd be a link to it.

Now I could go on (what is now called HandyHerman.com) , type in what I am looking for, my address and up comes a listing of these capable people in order of their ranking. I can contact that person directly through their profile. Companies will be more accountable and more competitive. It's a win- win situation for all that's involved!"

There response was "Yes" and they created an amazing website that is receiving a great response (amazing to me that these two guys could create something this complicated yet still practical with out an entire programming team). Moral of the story is that if you have an idea, stick with it because you never know where your idea will take you at it evolves.

Hi Drew,

Thanks for the heads-up.

The site was pretty easy to use to create a new business profile. One suggestion is to allow the user to select and upload multiple images at one time. Then create functionality to allow them to select the 'Main' image that they want to be displayed.

I did encounter issues when trying to upload a second image. Not sure if it was my internet connection or what.
