By the way I did learn how to build sites about 3 weeks ago when I started HAARK Concepts at www.haarkconcepts.com

It certainly does have a learning curve.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

The hyperlinks on the last page do not link for a reason. I do not have a web portfolio, so I am giving examples of what could happen if you utilize iTS.

I hope that clarifies.

I am not sure what your leads are exposed to, but if they are going to your website their is nothing to buy, their are no graphics or clickable text links to any design elements that I noticed and the graphic and dark background don't really give me the feeling that I am at a design site, it feels more like a game site in some ways, and the text is to small for me but maybe it's my monitor today. It is acceptable to develop a portfolio of your or your contracted designers abilities without it having been paid work. Show what you can do, logos, banners, headers, graphic art, ads, forms, custom websites, templates, text styles, e business cards, whatever you can do or want to sell you'll need to show it in order to sell it in my humble opinion. I know when I look for a new designer I look at their site or link to portfolio and base my decision first if they have samples of anything I like, anything that I would use, but that's me. As far as how they got started I know many create a portfolio and then use some of the freelance sites and then bid on webmasters posted design projects, when I need a designer because the last one flaked out or is to busy I post projects on freelance sites to find new talent, but in all cases I have to see samples of their work first, I need to see the design skills, I only need words if I am hiring a writer! ITS - Steve is on the money. People are visual and they will always look at the pictures before they read the writing. If you want to set expectations; set them high not low. If you are going to point out what you have the capacity to do; look at the high end not the low.

People buy with their eyes...you look at a menu and see something you like and buy it not because it taste good but because it looks good.

Paint a picture for people and they will put themselves in it.

Most people will only come to your site once; you need to wow them that once so they will use you or have a reason to come back.

The first critiques were correct, the ones that were relevant to the old site.

The critiques given to me after the fact of the new site I do not totally agree with.

Correct or incorrect the new site is better then the old.

Guess I am on the right path.

ITS,
I'm sorry but I did not see the other site so everything I said is because of what I'm looking at right now. I do not mean to be critical and I hope you except my apology. 1000 people will probably have 1000 opinions. I have only built 1 site and I can not speak on how to build them but I have sold many of them and I can certainly speak on that.

Good luck

Bobby

Thank you for your apology.

Whether I like the criticism or not, I still need it. I will not be able to better analyze the path I need to take without it.

I did agree about the font size, and that has been changed.

Thanks again for the support.

I was trying to be critical but for your benefit, to start a web design firm or be a web designer and be successful you will need to sell the potential customer on your services and it won't be through words in most cases, if they are buying web design they will want to see what you can provide. I am not saying that your site is bad, I am saying that most persons that I know buy design work from what they see and if you only have one type of graphic art and one type of background you will be limiting your sales, but that is your choice of course. I am saying that if you are in the business of web design you should have no problem making a portfolio and that's the way customers should look at it, they should not buy from anybody that can't show their work, so that should be your next step in my opinion. I am not trying to be mean I am trying to be helpful. Steve

Well taken Steve.

I agree with the portfolio.

Question- When did you look at the site? Last night or today.

If you only did last night, you need to take a visit again.

iTS,

I'm not piling on but I do agree with Steve agian.

I agree your site is better and that is due to your desire to make it better and get more business.

Just don't ever get to the point where it is "good enough".

I looked at it today so my feedback was after your change, but then also went back and looked at the link you provided that was yesterdays with the white background. Regardless of your site layout you have to spend the time on a portfolio, by now you could have made a couple logos or banners and have it started. Going with a black background you will want to make sure your portfolio pages have some samples with lighter backgrounds also. I may sound like a broken record but people buying design want to see designs, if I was looking for design work and you only had one item in your portfolio but it was one I liked I may hire you just because I liked what you had even though the portfolio was limited, if you are contracting out all your design work you should be able to make a deal with the designer for some free samples since you are using them if not get a new designer!. I am also going to say that once you get going you are probably going to run into big trouble with the 30 day money back guarantee, I would drop it and go with unlimited revisions for a specifc time period or something like that. Unfortunatly their are many persons who will take advantage of that and get their money back and still use your work product just to save money even if they love your work. Most designers selling on the internet do not release any artwork in it's final form (without sample written across it) until paid in full or unless they have an established relationship or purchase order from larger corp because their are so many webmaster crooks out their and a 30 day moneyback guarantee is an invitation to steal your work product and I am not so sure it's worth it as a selling point? a serious paying customer would probably be more interested in revisions towards a final product than refunds. Just my thoughts.... Steve

My field is sales, marketing and advertising.
