Marketing software products in big cities is easier even though it is expensive. This is because ppl are aware of the industry standards & waiting for new products to get launched in the market.
But this is not the case in small towns.People are not aware or not educated enough to realise where our market stands globally. This is where marketing becomes extremely difficult & effiecient strategies have to be implemented to achieve it.

If anyone has faced this difficulty pls share with us.We want to build comprehensive strategies to make it successful.

Hi,
I've introduced myself in my recent post, but no problem in doing it again :).

I am currently working in a s/w industry.I am also running this firm with my other partners. Now we want to expand our business & r striving hard to show our presence.
We also products developed for real estate & financial firms.we have shown our presence in some part where ppl are much aware of s/w industries. But now we are planning a new venture to start our business in considerably small towns (Wondering whether it is better to get the market survey first??).Along with this we are looking for the projects that are outsourced by other companies.

I am in India.I am not sure whether you are aware of the state or not.but anyways state is Karnataka.
But I think most of the times if u consider the small towns, difficulties which u face are same!
I was just curious to know what kind of problems did u face & how did u overcome them??

In the U.S., there are always people in small towns who think bigger and farther out of the box than people in a large city. Only part of the people in a small town are there because they're set in their ways -- quite a lot of people are there because they are way ahead of the curve and a small town gives them the freedom to explore some truly innovative ideas. Firms that develop or market new products will often find that someone in a small town is eager to be the first to have it and try it. It can be a great place to run a trial or to pilot a program. That may not always be the case in other countries, especially if outlying towns are relatively "closed" to anyone without an ancestral connection, so this post may not help you much, surajsm -- but it may give someone else who saw the question a new perspective to consider.

Hello surajsm,

Marketing requires research.
Research the town and it's inhabitance as best you can.
What retail outlets are popular in the area
What type of products do they purchase.
Does the town use public access television, is it popular. Can I advertise on that channel.
Do a presentation of some sort to someone who has influence around town and ask them if they like your product and ask them to introduce you to who's who." word of mouth endorsement helps a lot".
Ask the local retail stores to carry your product and cut them a percentage of every sale.

Warm Regards,
