I would have to say yes, when and if they are able.

A business owner is looked up to by most that utilize their product or service.

Poor ethics and lack of community involvement lead to a weak business community.

A weak business community promotes a weak commerce.

Chain reaction can be detrimental for business owners that think of just "me".

Volunteer!

Our firm believes in community involvement as well.
Being a part of the local Chamber of Commerce, we also volunteer our time at their events.
Usually I have each associate put in at least 20 hrs of community service.
I tend to put in a bit more but that is because I like to do it.

Yes, I provide training and facilitation for local non-profits as an in-kind service.

Interesting. Is this the same programs that you offer for for-profit businesses?

I volunteer at SCORE, am treasurer of two Boards in the County.
For anybody who wants to volunteer in their area just key punch " Volunteermatch " on Google.

CC08, in most cases, no -- most of my work for non-profits involves facilitating planning retreats or mentoring a new director. On a few occasions I did provide the executives of one organization with a workshop I frequently conduct for-profit (which is why that type of activity has to be done as in-kind work rather than as a volunteer.) What was your reason for asking?

Just because we are small, does not mean entrepreneurs and small businesses are exempt from thinking about our business social responsibility and the Triple Bottom Line - profitability AND social and environmental impacts. I encourage my small business clients (and myself!!) to get involved strategically based on a review of what resources are available which could be of use to a nonprofit organization. Since many of us don't have much, if any, dollars earmarked for our philanthropy budget, maybe volunteering or offering pro bono services is the way to get involved...but it might be something else. I think the real key is to try to be very strategic and make the distinction in your head between individual philanthropy and business philanthropy - a tall order for entrepreneurs who feel they "are" their business instead of "have" a business. I think it makes sense for you to figure out where to volunteer with a cause that matters to you AND could also have you can increase your visibility, make new contacts, etc. Time is too short...

Volunteering in the community is a good idea. It gets your business out in the community and shows that you are not in it just for the money. You have to be selective in what activities you choose to become involved in and also be sure that whatever service you will be providing is a good fit.

Examples of what I did include volunteering to be a Toys for Tots drop off location. I made a little room at the front of the store so people could see the posters and collection bin. We also participated in the local Kiwanis club fund raiser this past October. We donated food and gift certificates to their event.

Remember, volunteering doesn't have to mean big expenditures of money. Just the fact that you cared enough to be involved and support a cause is good for your image in the community.

I was just curious to learn about the services you volunteer to the non-profit community.
There was no direct reason for the question, just education on the services you provide.

Would like to share a personal experience.

Our company decided to donate ALL the proceeds of ALL the revenue generated from part of a web site called www.TheBestCityGuides.com/BestDeals

The amount of good will it has created is priceless. The increased traffic is an unexpected benefit. Thirdly all our Team members feel good about it too.

So my suggestion to you is help people as much as you can. Do not expect any thing in return. The unexpected rewards you will get can be priceless...

And please do join us any time...

What a great idea!

Even if this part of the website was more of a loss then profit for the company, the result of donating your time must of been satisfying enough.

Persons that volunteer, also could be considered a "natural entrepreneur", as it is this type of leadership, devotion and passion that drives a successful business.
