Need Help, Starting a sports retail store.

Hello to all,

I have been wanting to open a socer specific retail store but don't know where to start. Does anyone know how you start a retail store and how do you go about getting the apparel to sell? Any information you can give would be great. Thanks

Before looking into getting the store and the apparel, have you made a Business and Marketing Plan?
It really is the essential backbone to any new business venture.

Welcome to this site. Tell us more. How long have been wanting to open a soccer specific retail store??
It would also be good IF YOU KNEW HOW TO SPELL "Socer". Maybe good advertising??
How soon do you plan on opening this soccer store?? What is your background?? Do you have the FUNDS??
Do you have a business NAME??, An Accountant and a Lawyer?? How about LOCATION??
You also need a Business and Marketing Plan.

You have two options with Business Plans.

(a) You can hire a professional to write one for you.

(b) You can visit a group like SCORE and download one of their templates to work off of.

Yes you can go to SCORE online at " www.core.org " and get a FREE Online Seminar
about developing a BUSINESS PLAN.

Sorry, Soccer. I've ben thinking about it for about 2 months now. I would like to open it by May or June. I am a teacher and soccer coach. I have some funds with good credit. I haven't thought of a name yet. No Accountant or a Lawyer. I have some locations in mind. Please help me with some steps in starting.

Start with the Business and Marketing Plan.
Determine the financing you will need to launch this venture.
Seek out additional financing if you need it. (I can help)
Then you can move to the next step from there. That is where you should start.

My suggestion would be to prepare a Profit & Loss Projection for the first twelve months of operation.
Research the costs associated with the store front, the supplies, employee salaries, etc.
Use this as an opportunity to play with figures and be realistic. Don't project doing 1.5MM in sales the first month.
There are many P&L Templates on the Web that you can use to get you started. See what the cash injection would need to be to keep you growing for 12 months.

One more thing. How do you get your inventory. Lets say I want to sell adidas products. Do I need to contact adidas and buy products from them to sell or how does it work?
