Looking to drop PayPal and suggestions for alternatives.

I am looking to change the way I accept credit cards. Currently I use paypal, because well I knew about it and it was simple but there policies are not all that great. First offf I hate how they have there own dispute process instead of letting the bank handle any disputes, and not only that but there dispute process hevily favors the buyer. And when it comes to ebay sales well they hold up my finds for long periods of time killing my cash flow.

So here the deal I am looking for a good alternative. Something inexpensive for a small business with just a few transactions. A virtual terminal would be nice if it was affordable so I could process transactions over the phone, ect.

I provide IT services primarily to businesses, I also sell IT equipment though ebay and my own website.

Any recommendations?

Help needed on Paypal check out!

Hi Friends,

I need your suggestions of on-line transaction service providers.

We have used Paypal check out for a long time and did not find any problem before. However, this year some customers complained that they could not check out with their credit cards. But when we tested with our cards, no problem. We called Paypal, they said no problem.

But we could see sales dropped on these days. Most customers will walk away if they cannot check out online.

We found if we receive some chargeback cases, this problem might happen. Does anyone has the same experience?

We are thinking to add the second online checkout method. Any suggestion?

Thanks a lot for your help,

Karen
Do you need good credit to get merchant services?

I found the above subject line on my Google Analytics keyword list this morning. In my business, the subjects of "what does my personal credit have to do with my processing account" and "why do I have to provide my social security number
on the merchant services application: come up all the time. Apparantly, many people don't understand these concepts, so I thought I'd take a moment to explain publically.

The short answer is: A merchant account is a line of credit. It's not +simila+r to a line of credit, it IS a line of credit.

The ability to accept credit card payment in exchange for one's goods or services is not a right available to everyone; it is an earned privilege subject to underwriting criteria and other rules and regs associated with the granting of credit. A merchant processes a credit card (technically a small loan) which is then submitted to his processor in the daily batch transmission
This submission is basically a promisary note. In exchange for the promisary note, the processor advances the monies to the merchant. This advance is subject to significant risk on the part of the processor. If the transaction is invalid,
fraudulent or otherwise non-payable, the processor faces the problem of retrieving the advanced monies back from the merchant, a process called a "chargeback". This is where the credit of the merchant comes into play. If the merchant has poor credit,
that probably means he isn't good for his debts, which tells the processor they're probably going to have problems getting the merchant to make good on his chargeback debts. So before any processor grants processing permission to a merchant, they want to know about the personal credit of the merchant, which is why the SS number is required.

Which leads to the follow-up question: "Can everybody and anybody get a merchant account?" The answer is: No, not necessarily. Any merchant will truly horrible credit (or who engages in a business with a historically high chargeback risk) will find it nearly impossible to obtain a merchant account with what I call an "A:" or "B" processor (if at all). This sort of merchant may possibly find a home with a "D" or "F" processor who is willing to accept higher risk levels (some domestic processors, several offshore processors) which unfortunately comes with a higher price tag--the old risk/reward axiom of the financial industry. It works just line any other loan--those with the best credit get the preferred rates.
How can we identify electronic payments?

We are a new manufacturing company in the US. Most of our sales are to Mexico, and payments are by electronic transfer. The payments come without any identification of the payor, the invoice, or the transaction. How can we set up our system so the electronic transfers will include identifying information? As it is now, we have many customers and it's very hard to track payments.

What you are using for your processing

Hi - my partners and I are in public relations in Texas working mostly with new Tech compaines. Lately, a few of our clients have been having merchant processing problems - i.e. delays in payment, declines for no reason, chargebacks (lots of chargebacks). While we don't really deal that much with merchant processors - we do sit on the Board of many of these companies and are trying to find out more about the process and why these things keep happening. Can anyone help?

As a small merchant would 'shrink-wrapped' compliance tools.

I have a question for the list as a new member.

What would you think of 'compliance technologies' which were shrink-wrapped for you as a merchant such that you could buy them off the shelf and by operating them as directed your compliance with the specific requirements of those regulatory frameworks your business is controlled by were met?

This is a new look at the intersection between how IT systems operate and automated capture of evidence to support that. For instance PCI DSS is very complex but if you could pay for a 'pre-certified practice' which was already fully audited, you would only have to operate it per the instructions to create all the key evidence of your proper operations.

We think this is where the rubber meets the road and by pre-qualifying practices for IT operations with the auditor's that this reduces the complexity of compliance which in turn evidences itself in the form of lower costs.

Any thoughts?
