New Study Finds Content Marketing Doesn’t Really Work!

A new Swedish study just released has found that content marketing and custom publishing don’t really work!

This exhaustive study conducted by the Royal Institute of Technology has found that content marketing and custom publishing are methodologies which are not valid and should not be considered as a part of any advertising or marketing plan, project or program.

For the last three years, using the world’s largest Cray SuperComputer, The Royal Institute of Technology found that content marketing has not been working. Reference - Study >>Doktorand Yt - Och Korroslonsvetenskap >> Published 2009-12-10. The results are not pretty, especially if you happen to be in the content marketing industry using this methodology to deliver advertising, marketing or branding messages to a core audience. The study uses extensive data mining, double blind statistical data drumming, data appending with reverse metrics and fourth level search data from Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and InfoUSA to better understand the true long term results of content marketing.

Here’s what they found in brief:

RIT studied 15,114 Content Marketing and Custom Publishing campaigns
98.7% of those campaigns “had not and could not” deliver any measurable level of success
There was also “no” measurable - Return On Investment for all 15,114 marketing campaigns studied over this three year period
Only .02% of all end users engaged in these campaigns or had any further conversation with the provider
Custom publishing provided only 1.7% message penetration to any core audience - what so ever

Wow, we’re in real trouble here. All those years of hard work down the drain - in one big scientific FLUSH!

And we’ve spent the last four months creating, developing and are about to launch an incredible video content marketing project. Man, that’s a bummer.

Sorry for the bad news. I guess we’re going to have to dust off that old resume and get cracking with the job search. You know what? Maybe I’ll send my new video content marketing project to The Royal Institute of Technology and let them put that in their supercomputer and smoke it! What do you think?

Hey we’re here anyway. Want to hear about our little project? Cool, here it is… Stella Pop is about to release a video content marketing project.

It’s a viral video project which was conceptualized by Stella Pop and developed in partnership with Goodwill of Greater Washington. The rap-opera song was written by Kokayi (Grammy nominated rapper from DC) and performed by both Jen Corey (Miss DC 2009 and Kokayi as a fresh musical hook for the video series launching in late December. It was recorded and mixed at Sweet Spot Studio under the creative direction of Nicolas Laget and Kokayi. Having never been in a recording studio before, I can say “in the sweet spot” is exactly right for this musical team lead by Kokayi. I can’t dance but I was secretly in my mind getting on a seriously disturbing and scary groove. Enough said about my dancing.

The complete song will be available at iTunes and if you buy the song there’s good news, Goodwill receives the benefits of your purchase as a donation. All the money raised by Goodwill is used for enhancing the dignity and quality of life of individuals, families and communities by eliminating barriers to opportunity and helping people in need reach their fullest potential through the power of work. Goodwill’s vision is that every person has the opportunity to achieve his/her fullest potential and participate in and contribute to all aspects of life. So get over to iTunes and purchase the song. Maybe even give away a few downloads to friends and family.

This viral video series was filmed over a four month period and documents the interior and design rejuvenation of Jen’s (Miss DC) new apartment with items purchased at Goodwill stores throughout the Washington DC area. And when I say purchased, I mean we spent almost nothing for an apartment full of ” household bling.” The great thing about all these items is that they were lovingly donated by good people from all over the DC community. That is sweet!

By the way, recycling is Jen’s platform for the Miss America Pageant which is taking place at the end of January in Las Vegas. Make sure you vote for her, she’s talented and very down to earth.

This partnership between Stella Pop, Jen Corey - Miss DC 2009 and Goodwill of Greater Washington is an excellent example of content marketing in the form of an independent viral video project. Don’t tell Goodwill all this nice stuff I’m about to say, it just might go to their heads but they have an incredible marketing team and have created a highly successful content marketing program highlighted by their blog - DC Goodwill Fashionista.

The blog is a true collaboration but the main writing talent behind it is Gillain Kirkpatrick who also stars in the video as Jen’s partner in crime and shopping buddy. Stella Pop has been honored to work with this amazing non-for-profit organization and it has been a truly educational and an uplifting experience so you can understand our excitement about the upcoming video launch.

Can I can tell something? The song and video are awesome and fun, if I do say so myself. And, the video turned out to be extremely cool, heart warming and was filled with lots of goodwill from everyone involved. Stay tuned for the first video installment which is coming soon! Around the end of December.

Stella says, create content that connects with your audience. It doesn’t always have to be so literal and direct to get involvement and illustrate your brand message. Want the perfect example, check out DC Goodwill Fashionista.
PS - The scientific study is not for real but you probably already figured that out - hope you’re not mad and enjoy the ringtone download provided below.
We’ve included a free ringtone for you to download that is a tiny taste of the rap-opera song “A Dream Without Boundaries” coming with our video series.

Pub. needs bridge $ for print run and new media expansion!

I need your help (really).

Thank you for taking a look at this. In 2007 I launched a small press publishing company and magazine that has since been nominated for three major awards, and recommended for others. Last year we signed a 4 year distribution agreement with a magazine distributor and yesterday we received our SECOND order for 1,660 copies of our magazine from Barnes & Noble, Hastings, Folletts, and a few indie booksellers.

We have an established online, social networking, and Amazon.com presence and are on the threshold of major growth. In the last year I have succeeded in generating over $10,000 in revenue on a part time basis without any distribution in place (only word of mouth). Now armed with a stellar reputation within our market and ongoing orders from major retailers for the next few years all I need is the cash to fund the expanded print run and support the run with appropriate marketing. The bank could not help me because we have an unrelated rental property tanking.

Digital Distribution

We are already in the process of formatting i content for electronic distribution through the Amazon Kindle, the Apple iPhone, and other mobile devices. We believe that digital distribution represents a growing segment of the market that could, in fact, complement print media by augmenting traditional content with exclusive electronic material. We intend to have our entire library available in Kindle and mobile formats by early 2010.

Consider this news story from the New York Times:

Seeking to strengthen its presence on the iPhone and iPod Touch, Amazon has acquired Lexcycle, the company behind Stanza, a popular free e-book application for the iPhone, according to Lexcycle’s blog. Stanza allows users to browse a library of around 100,000 books and periodicals for the iPhone, many of them in the ePub format — a widely accepted standard for e-books that Amazon has yet to support with its proprietary Kindle platform.

We have a business plan, supporting documents, financial projections, an audience, solid ideas, contacts in the industry, and significant growth potential.

What we need is $5000 immediately to get the first run of mags through the printer and then to the distributor. We'll need more ($25K) down the road.

Looking for corporate sponsors willing to support us through high-end advertising packages; or legitimate financing or investors. If you have a relationship with a quality printer that can offer me net 30 terms maybe we can work out some kind of "finder's fee for you."

Please, with all due respect, no credit rebuilding schemes, pay-to-present rackets, or any other dubious offers.

I need the cash yesterday. If you can front it and support a small press, then at the very least you will receive better-than market interest payments from me.

Thanks!

I was contacted today by the National Private Investor Lender Forum, but based upon what I've read, i am not so sure they are a "good fit" for me.

I would sincerely appreciate your feedback.
My Next Big Thing

I'm a small business owner and I would like to publish a magazine for my company. Yet I don't know what company to use for my printing. I've been searching all over the net, and I keep running into dead ends. Everyone wants a minimum of this or a minimum of that. All I want is 500 copies of my mag printed every other month. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm tired of searching the world wide web, so I'm turning to my online business community for help. I hope someone out there can be of some assistance. If not, I'll have to take drastic measures and we all know that that can destroy a small business such as mine.

I'm on a tight budget and I'm screaming for help. All comments and assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you,
My published works by Bao and his questions about feedback

Hi! I don't know if this is the right place to post? I don't know what to consider a real business. I am an art major and have enjoyed creative writing so I started to publish on Lulu.com if anyone is aware of their services. Is it still a business to have your works published and sold through lulu even though the creative work is all your own? Finally I would like to grab the attention business professionals who might find need to publish to read my poems and see my drawings. Right now, I have my first published material it set up for sale and would like others to review it. Yes, you will have to buy a copy of it although, the read is well worth it, I believe. I would like to spread the word to any, because I am hoping to get a reader's following for my works. Here is the site:
Urgent need for the experienced editor! for a children book

Yes, I do look for the experienced editor for childrens books and accompanying educational CDs (for 5-12 year olds, dyslexic kids to develop their reading skilss and cognitive abilities). I am looking for someone who has solid experience in editing such kind of books and be able to edit my books. It would be exceptionally nice to find someone from Scholastic ...am I dreaming??
My books were published in Russia and Ukraine, over 1 million copies, but I am totally new to the American edutainment market and therefore I need a really good editor and solid advise. I've seen a tough competion in childrens' books market and I can't afford costly rooky's mistakes. What I mean is that everything what I try to do has to be done at a highly professional level, compared to what Scholastic is printing now. My books should be like this. How dare I even compare myself to this famous and long established publisher??? But I do! What gives me the right to think so? The effort I put in creating new approaches and time, I've spent doing this. But most of all the confidence that if kids are given the chance of reading my books they can do much better in their lives and struglle in the school system.

Finding Companies To Use My Advertising Services

Happy new year, everyone.

I started my own contextual ad network in October, 2006 and we are getting ready to launch in March, 2008. It will be capable of delivering ads via text, images and video through
methods of CPM (cost per thousand impressions), CPA (cost per action), CPC
(cost per click) and CPV (cost per view).

Added solutions are Interstitial, in-line
text, co-registration and even email marketing. We are submitting patents on our programs before we release them for further testing in February. I designed a system that will generate more productivity in less
time and man-power required than most that need hundreds or thousands of employees.

Our method of ad delivery depends on ad type,
medium, category, price-range, keyword, keyword bid, demographic, geographic,
time of day, approval and much more.
This is a self-service that gives each individual the control they want.

Here's the big question. Despite all the powerful concepts I've come up with, how will I find corporations interested in using my services? Do I pick up the phone book and make cold calls? How do advertising agencies find clients?

I have no problem finding publishers, they come in the truck-loads from all walks of life, since my services are available world-wide. So yeah, do I just look for a particular business category online, look up websites and give their director of marketing or CEO a call to setup a one-on-one discussion on the advertising opportunity?

I'm curious to know how other advertising agencies are doing it and if you're a business looking for advertising, how would you have liked to be approached?
