I have had a positive experience with Go Daddy its reseller lexiwebs.com.

Also, net solutions reg prices are 2-3 times that of GoDaddy depending on the TLD.

Disagree... Go daddy is terrible. I like Net Solutions. Only qualm I have with Net Solutions is when you register a private domain, it is not in fact "private". Maybe pricing would be another concern.

I say try: http://www.livedomainsearch.com (they don't record your inquiries and register them later). Very useful and honest site. Try it and provide feedback.
Very useful information! So where does one go to conduct a 'clean' search for domain name availability? Is there a down side to using http://www.internic.net/whois.html other than the obvious / stated limitations?
One problem, in my view, is that Network Solutions draws new visitors in with wording like "check to see if your desired domain name is available" -- but the page such a visitor lands on is the exact same page that existing Network Solutions customers are using to "reserve" domain names. As a customer, I sort of like that functionality -- for example, when I'm tossing around a dozen or more possible domain names for a new project, I can enter them all and the ones that are available will effectively become "less available" for a few days. If I decide on one or more, I can register them then (albeit for about 50% more than it should cost) -- but if I don't, I nearly always get an e-mail offer soon after to register any or all of the names I entered for $10 each, or two years for the price of one, or some similar deal. That works for fine me -- but I think it's a big mistake on their part to do that by default to potential new customers.

I am not sure how many of you are aware of this issue but just in case you had no clue, here it is: http://smallbiztechnology.com/archive/2008/01/is-network-solutions-stealing.html.

I have seen this happen to many of my customers. If this happens to you make sure to contact ICANN and file a report. Alternatively use eNom.com for registrations.

Good Luck!
