Hi Shelly,

I recently came across a couple of interesting saas (software as a service) solutions that might fit your needs. The first one, NetBooks (www.netbooks.com) was actually developed by the person who created QuickBooks at Inutit and encompasses all aspects of your business. The second, also a saas solution, is OrderMotion (www.ordermotion.com) is solely focused on order automation.

Best of luck,

Are you going to store everything at a warehouse or outsource that too?

You could do this with all web services

Storefront such as Shopify, Volusion or Yahoo Store
+
Outsourced warehouse with inventory management (does all your packaging, inventory counts and order fulfillment. Synchs to your store)
+
Credit Card processing

A lot of companies don't like the idea of going totally virutal at first; but, its a thought.
Shelly,

Another option for you is Stone Edge Order Manager. It can aggregate/automate much of your order management data and activities and communicate with a number of already existing shopping carts out there for your online purchase. Their target market is small to mid-sized business. They are at http://www.stoneedge.com.
Hey,
Just to add in my two cents. We recently opened an art gallery and bookstore (www.amblegallery.com) and we use a combination of Quickbooks Point of Sale for inventory/customer management as well as sales/credit cards. It is also used for POs and has other great tracking and reporting tools as well. Probably not the cheapest thing out there but definitely worth it as you can have it work with all the extras like the card scanner, receipt printer, label printer, barcode reader.. etc Then it works together with Quickbooks Pro to transfer and record sales as well as download transactions from your bank accounts and such. We opened to the public just a few months ago and had considered starting out doing things by hand but I am so glad we decided to go this way from the beginning. I think it was well worth it.
