if you have a USA based company, you would simply ship as much of your goods to your usa office and sell from that point....and not worry about anything, duties, etc. because you would have made those payments already.
costume jewelry demands a high markup because it is so cheap...if it is normally .33 cents, you can sell it at $2 or $3 each and make ur money back quite easily...
bank of america will extend to u at least $15,000 line of credit if not more....so your problems are quite minimal.........talk to a business rep. at bank of america...here and in India, they will be more than happy to assit you.
working out of the usa would be better for your effort and have your own website through go-daddy...good luck, send me photos and prices thanks

Naveen,

Hopefully it isn't too late to respond here.

This is a totally typical situation and your fulfillment company should have guided you.

1) you need a US Tax ID to land product into the US. It is very simple, even if your fulfillment house was going to pay it, they are likely not the importer of record. http://help.shipwire.com/non-us-importing
-into-us/

2) Your payment system should send an order to the warehouse once you've approved the order. It doesn't matter where the money goes. Maybe try paypal at first, that is how a lot of our customers send us orders.

3) For tax in the state it may come down to whether you leased the warehouse space to create a "Nexus" for tax. Consider not leasing a warehouse space and getting your warehouse as a service. This means you probably don't have a local nexus where the warehouse is...kind of like outsourcing a call center.

Again your fulfillment house probably should have guided you to the tax ID.

Cheers
Hi Navin,

Since you are leveraging internet as the medium to promote your items, we suggest you do the following:

1) open an ecommerce site (if you have not already done that)

2) spend some effort on search engine optimization and internet marketing

We are professional internet marketing consultants based in NY and Bangalore and can definitely help you out with a very clear cut strategy. We can talk about cost factors as I know your cash flow might be little tight right now.
Naveen

I started life just like you. I started selling jewelry on eBay and looked for someone in the US to ship to my customers and it was very very tough. Things were expensive and taxes etc were really high and I was paying the agents here a lot more than I was earning myself!
In short you need to find someone in the similar line of business who will partner with you (its better this way in my experience). let them earn with you and grow your business.
I am in oregon. i dont have sales tax issues. The tax I have to pay is Oregon and Federal Income tax. No other taxes. If you want to partner with me then I am ready. I will clear your goods from customs here and import in bulk. I can then ship it slowly to your customers. I have all the resources, office space, warehouse space etc for this.
I will charge you a %ge of what you sell so you dont have to pay me if there is nothing you sell. contact me at cs@sparklediamonds.com

Ohio is just like Nevada -- your warehouse will have to pay the state of Ohio the applicable use tax on items purchased by and shipped to customers within the state.

It's important to distinguish that this is a USE tax not a SALES tax, so it CANNOT be added to the amount an Ohio customer pays for your product when you sell it. By Ohio state law, you must charge customers there the same amount as anyone in any other state. The warehouse must absorb the expense of that tax and pay it to the state. (The reason is to protect local Ohio merchants from outside competition.)
