Unfortunately, being "busy" may cause us to stop doing the very things that help us handle stress -- regular exercise and a healthy diet. Under stress, our bodies produce high levels of cortisol and adrenaline, which can cause hormone imbalances, a rapid loss of nutrients, and reduced immunity. Physical exercise reroutes the adrenaline and halts the release of cortisol. Decreasing the intake of certain unhealthy foods (many of which are convenient "fast foods" or sweet holiday favorites), and increasing the intake of specific healthy foods, can help replace nutrients more quickly, regulate hormones, and restore immunity.

Not being able to say "no" can also cause holiday overload and stress. It may be more difficult to tell someone no, and to fend off feelings of guilt during the holidays than at other times, yet we have to able to keep our time commitments manageable.

And unlike Clark W. Griswald in all the National Lampoon Vacation movies, we have to have realistic expectations for ourselves and for everyone else to begin with. A "perfect" holiday season is going to require about 900 percent more work from everyone than a "great" holiday season.

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}
We all know that the holiday season can be stressful. Stress can be
felt as a physical or emotional reaction to demanding situations A certain amount of daily stress is normal and even
necessary. However, ongoing, or excessive stress, either
positive or negative, can result in fatigue, burnout, and even
depression. {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}*Symptoms of Stress*{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}
Learning to recognize the symptoms of stress is the first step in
effectively managing it. Some signals that will alert you to excessive
stress include: {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Difficulty sleeping
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Irritability or moodiness
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Decreased satisfaction with tasks
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Persistent feeling of urgency
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Clammy and sweaty hands
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Cold hands and feet
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Tension headaches, backaches, stomachaches or other physical discomforts
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}
Managing Stress {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}A number of
techniques are available that can assist you in reducing stress. Review
the following methods and use those that work best for you: {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Take care of yourself.
Eating healthy foods and getting plenty of rest will help you maintain
your body’s resistance to the physical symptoms of stress. {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Manage your time.
Take charge of your day by scheduling your time and focusing on your
goals. Create a list of tasks to accomplish. Be sure to cross items off
your list as they are completed. {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Identify the messages you give yourself. Focus on what you can do rather than your limitations. Be positive.
{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Try deep muscle relaxation.
Start by tensing your shoulders for about 10 seconds. Slowly release
the tension and you will begin to feel your muscles relax. Try this
exercise for all major muscle areas from your shoulders to your feet. {size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}	Make time for fun.
Take a break from your normal routine during the day to ease tension.
Physical exercise or just a change of scenery, such as an evening at
the movies, can help you relax.{size}{font}

{font:verdana, arial, helvetica, sans-serif}{size:2}LUCKIEST
{size}{font}

teacup,

One of the most important things to do is have open communication with your employees. I would suggest a morning huddle up to discuss the goals of the day and to get feedback about any issues employees may be having. You could also end the day with a wrap up, to do the same thing. Employees appreciate knowing that their feedback matters, especially during the holiday season. Also remember, the holidays can be busy for businesses, make sure your employees get adequate break time in order to refresh so that they do not get burned out.

Regards,
