here are where grants are offered without fees www.grants.gov the unfortunate thing however is that there are very few grants ever made available to folks like ourselves....if you happen to do research on things the government feels are valid to fund...they may give you a grant...I wrote to them...they said there were no grants available to folks wanting to build an e-tail web site...they s k! maybe with obama in things will improve...
Government grants for for-profit businesses are very hard to come by. The only real grants out there are SBIR and STTR grants. The federal government requires each of its departments to fund 2% of their budget into these programs. These programs have over $2 billion per year.

The problem: The will only fund projects that they request. So, you can search for any of these department's projects and see if your company would meet the request. Keep in mind, they are very particular, require well researched and written grant proposals, and are very, very competitive.
I was told by a friend that there are grants available for start-ups. I went to the internet and found many places that wanted to sell me "access" to lists of grants which, by the way, are free if you have the time and know exactly where to look. So, I bit on one of the well designed come-ons and, for $12.95 got my access. Printed off pages (is this starting to sound familiar?), pored over the lists to see if I qualified for any of the available grants and found, not really a surprise, that I did not qualify for anything, not even an SBA loan (since I have not been in business for 3 years). So, please, if you have a better experience or better luck, let me know.

Good luck on your new business and best of New Years to you.
I went to school for media production,I now want to start my own business filming weddings, special events, and etc. I dont have the cash, no credit to apply for a loan, or family&friends for support to start the business myself so, I have been researching information about government grants to fund a new business venture. A lot of the information is not straight-forward into pointing me in the right direction for my business. What is the best route to pursue government grants for start-up collateral for a new business?
