I agree with you in putting your eggs in more than one baskets. Sales flocuates. Can you give me more information on call center work? You know as college students, we are always looking more than one ways to make money.....

That sounds awesome! I love some of MK fragrance products and they even make great gift items for men. A lot of men are getting more and more concerned with skin care (as they should ;)) And yeah.. I would emphasize less expensive products as well as the fact that MK lasts a long time because a little goes a long way!

Thanks for your imput I see your point with chossing something less expensive products. The thing is this people know what they like and they buy what they like and can afford; whether Mary Kay etc.. The funny I said to myself is that we are in a recession, but people are still buying the products. I have a great costomer base at the Univeristy and in the local communities. I have out of state clients as well. Christmas is great for me as people are buying lots of christmas gift and baskets that I am making. I offer free gifts on my website, and free gift wrapping and that really helps people alot. I try to sell more of the cheaper products and that is really working out. Thanks for your time in sharing, you made me smile.

Of course another thing to think about in a recession:

DON'T PUT ALL OF YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET!

I am currently freelancing for 2 companies and I always have a few of my own ideas on the backburner.. just in case. There are tons of opportunities for regular paychecks from home, especially doing things like call center work. They may not pay much, but they will tide you over when sales are down or while you build your clientele.
I totally agree that women still want to look/smell nice, and I love Mary Kay, but I can honestly say if I am trying to cut expenses, I am probably going to opt to do w/o non necessisties or buy a less expensive product. What are you doing to maintain your customer base when a lot of people are indeed having personal financial crisis and having to choose sometimes between something as basic as a gallon of milk or a gallon or 2 of gas in their vehicles? I am actually trying to help you here.. because I already know you have a great product!
I learn this is My history class. If you go to the great depression you can also read about this. Think about this, women want to look good no matter what. Would you go without lotion, perfume, soap etc. ? Those are some of the costmetics that we use everyday, plus you have to interact with people and your appearance is VERY important. I hope this helps.

May I ask where you find historical information that indicates that cosmetics do well in a recessive economy? I would think things like cosmetics would be a "luxury" which people would make last longer and that they might start buying less expensive drugstore brands.
