Starting a Woodworking business

I have worked in the IT industry for 20+ years, starting as a programmer then working my way up to management and project management. I'm having problems finding a new IT opportunity so I thought I'd try something different. I'm a woodworking hobbyist for over 30 years and completed several projects for my home, family and friends. I have a small shop in my 2-bay garage and interested in starting a business providing custom furniture, cabinets, tables, etc... I'm not much of a salesman and I have some reservations as a result. Although, I'm very meticulous, extremely good with details and planning. I should be able to use these attributes in a business

Wanting to buy an existing Automotive type business

I am actively searching to buy an existing automotive repair type business. Have 15 yrs business management and sales experiece working for others with life trade and hobby experience in mechanics and construction. I know the well run independent consumer repair type garages are doing well and have actually increased business over the last 2 years. However, I have found a business that peaks my interest and believe it is lacking the focused efforts it needs to grow. Unfortunately it is a more niche related business than I would like to have limiting the revenue stream to just high performance upgrades with parts sales and only focusing on higher end American made late model cars. My question, what is the size and viability of this specific market mainly in Florida? There are so many speed shops as well as on-line parts distributors I need to know just how vast this niche market is and what the current demand is given the current economy. Is it growing? Declining? Saturated? Has this upper aged customer market segment taken a hit or been unaffected? Any experienced or opinionated feedback would be helpfull.

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and would like to say there is wealth of information here and everyone is so humble and helpful. So thank you for that!!

I would like to know how do some local boutiques manage to carry brand names in their store.
Do they buy these merchandise, are they on consignment how does this work.

So basically if i want to open a small retail boutique and want to carry certain designer labels/brand names how do I go about it.

Staring a Cleaning Service

I am a 35-year old woman with an average career looking to start a cleaning service that will provide services to doctor offices, new construction, rental properties, cleaning house of people that are moving out, churches etc.. I need advice on how to price the job. Whether it should be priced by square foot, the job or project. I have already applied for my business license and had my inspection by the fire marshall who has signed off on the license. What other steps do I need to do to begin as far as advertising and building a clientale. Please give me all the advise that is available. I would like to begin as soon as possible but I am a little confused and unsure on how to price each job. Any advice will be gratly appreciated.

Inventing a product - where to start?

I'm inventing a new medical device. I have data to demonstrate the need for this product and a rough idea of who the market would be. I have rough sketches but will need an industrial designer to make drawings. I don't have a formal business plan drawn up, nor estimated start-up costs.

How do I estimate cost when I don't know how/where the product will be manufactured?

I have no capital, therefore cannot afford a designer or patent attorney at this time. I also have a lot of medical school debt and don't want to get a small business loan to get started. I would need to partner with a designer who would go in for a percentage of proceeds from the business.

Is this possible? How do I get started?
