As a Coin Dealer, I also sell numismatic supplies, i.e., albums, coin tubes, coin holding pages, etc. These supplies are purchased from an out-of-state vendor. I have used the same vendor for the past 10 years, but am now going to be doing some realistic price comparisons. Thanks much for the article.

You are right; it never hurts to ask. A lot of times if you present yourself professionally and give good reason you will get the discount you are looking for. Regards.

Good points were made in your story. Asking may give you a discount with local merchants or a break on your bill. Not asking leaves you wishing you had and wondering what you could have saved.

If the supplier can't afford to give you a discount on price, than try asking them to throw in more product or services. At the end of the day, it never hurts to ask. It's only you that pays the price if you don't ask.

Hi,

This also goes with what Chinese use to teach the young generations!> I experience this once myself!. Always compared whatever you wish to purchase with 3 different suppliers!. You will know if the price is right from the market and for you!. Hope this helps in your future deals. But don't do this for your petty expenses!.

The story is so true. I have asked for and recieved discounts. The worst that happens is they say no. No harm in trying.
