To anybody looking to invest in a franchise, I say BE CAREFUL!!!!!!
Many franchisees fail every year. There are not stats about it.
I am a business broker in South Florida and I see a lot of franchises struggling daily.

I think it is very important to consider the pros and cons of franchises. I have heard random stories of the problems that franchisees can face when the franchise does what is in its best interest and not in the best interest of the franchisee. It's probably best to interview several people who own a particular franchise to find out how the system works.

That's great advice to look for any past litigation when considering a prospective franchise. If franchisees are sueing a franchise, that is probably a good sign that there can be problems.

Franchises are very interesting and I enjoy reading these kinds of details. I find that each time I read an article about franchises, I learn a couple more good points. Knowing the costs of opening and running a franchise is important. This article notes some of the biggest costs and the comparisons are good too.

Great overview article about the benefits and costs of starting a franchise, and reminds me of my own experience. I'm looking forward to Part II.
