It's harder than ever to raise money in today's credit environment. Starting a new business requires both your capital and passion. With the right banker your passion can win over potential bankers/investors. Show them that you're real and tell them why your business will be a success in terms they will understand. When asked don't sugarcoat the risks. Show them that you've already thought them through. It will build confidence -- yours and their confidence in you.

I think it was a great point about making sure you target not only the decision makers- but the people who can speak to the decision makers as well.

I found this article interesting and informative. I can understand how taking an indirect approach to getting funding, in our present crisis, could be very helpful. I am a wife and my husband has oftne consulted me when making decisions or in need of guidance.

Great advice (fairly new to this community). It is a struggle after bankruptcy (filed in 2002 after being out of work for almost a 1yr and 1/2). I am doing fairly well now and have followed most of the advice that was presented. Thanks for validating what I have already been practicing.
